Late in February, sandhill cranes, the San Luis Valley’s oldest visitors, begin their annual trek from south to north, stopping off near the Monte Vista National Wildlife Refuge to load up on fuel. For millions of years, the sandhills have been spending their "Spring Break" in Colorado’s Valley of the Cranes and more recently, wildlife watchers have been drawn to wonder at this phenomenal natural spectacle.
Every Labor Day weekend, the San Luis Valley roars to life with incredible classic cars and hot rods. Come and check out one of the largest vintage car shows in Colorado with over 500 vehicles to admire. There are food and beer vendors, live entertainment, and a slow cruise down Alamosa's Main Street.
The Alamosa Round-Up is a prime event in the San Luis Valley. Some of the best Bull Riders in the PRCA and PBR match up with the top Honeycutt Bulls. The Bull Riding alone is worth the trip to town. You are sure to find your favorite rodeo event. Top Cowboys and Cowgirls from around the country as well as future champions don their hats, chap up and put on a show for the fans.
